Post-class Pub: There is a tradition in the ski patrol – “Boots Off”. This is the moment when everyone is back safely at the end of a long day and we can now take all our ski boots off for the day. We usually have a post class boots off in honour of this tradition, and the new Mill St. Pub is just a few minutes away from our school. So do plan for hanging around a little longer after class to join in the camaraderie and social time that makes the patrol experience so unique.
Course Costs: There is a cost to joining the ski patrol. The fees paid by our members offset the cost of running a national organization and cover our liability insurance. Thankfully, the Gatineau Zone is incredibly active in the community and raises funds in order to greatly reduce the direct costs to our members. In your first year, the fee is $195 to cover the cost of delivering the advanced medical responder training course and first aid kit and in subsequent years your fee will lowered to approximately $185. You will also have the opportunity to earn credits toward this annual membership fee by volunteering at the summer events that we service. $195 is due before the first course and payment information will be requested after registration is completed above. As well at registration all new recruits will be offered the option to purchase ‘extra’ but necessary first aid supplies. These are not included in the basic first aid kit we provide because some people may already have these or have an alternate means to acquire them. These are:a pair of safety scissors,a face mask, plastic whistle without inner ball, and a pupil gauge. The extra kit is $30 and can be purchased at the time of credit card payment or cash and cheque.
